One Hyde Park, SW1

The new One Hyde Park apartment building is one of the glossiest new developments in London and is reportedly home to the most expensive flat in London. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the foreign minister of the Gulf State of Qatar and a member of the royal family, is said to have snapped up a £100 million penthouse home here. The building was designed by Richard Rogers, and prices for the 86 flats start at £4 million (that's more than $8 million). When the building is completed in 2010, One Hyde Park will be linked to the nearby Mandarin Oriental Hotel via an underground tunnel and will feature art by Sam Taylor-Wood and James Turrell. The priciest flats are believed to have panic rooms and bulletproof walls.
